Sailing the not-so-high seas

I know my last post was a bit boring and pointless, so I've stayed quiet until I had something worth blogging about - and now I have just the thing!

Yesterday was Mr Bon's work Christmas do, which was held on the Leeuwin, our local sail training ship. We had been on the Leeuwin before, but it was a really calm day and so we never actually sailed at all - very disappointing! I will admit I was rather uncertain as to how well my stomach would hold up, given that buses and trains can be a bit of a problem these days. But as it turned out, I had an AWESOME day!

I probably should have felt a bit more empathy for the people around me whose stomachs were playing up, but heck, after three or so years I was a little busy triumphing in my own wellbeing :D I think I worked out why I felt so fantastic - the fresh air! It's always the stuffiness that gets to me first on public transport, particularly when it's crowded and you can't feel the air con at all. Oh for the days when one could just open a window - I don't think I need particularly cool air, just moving air.

So on the gorgeous Leeuwin I had all the fresh air I could need, and the sea and sky were such a beautiful colour that it was hard to stop grinning! I suspect that if I'd had to spend much time below decks my stomach would be in an entirely different state, but let's not think too hard about that :D

I took a bunch of photos - half of them showing Mr Bon & his colleagues climbing the rigging (I don't think I'm quite strong enough for that sort of caper yet!) and then in the other half I tried to get nice shots without too many people getting in the way :D

And just in case I thought the day couldn't get any better - as we trudged home from the train station, Mr Whippy came down our street! The same Mr Whippy who has been TAUNTING me for weeks on end in boilingly hot weather! Ironically, we have a ridiculously large and varied stash of ice creams in the freezer, but after whinging about Mr Whippy for so long I couldn't just let the van drive past. So I got that rocket I've been craving!

And in very boring yesterday-news, I also bought a pair of shorts. I haven't had a wear-out-able pair of shorts in I don't know how long. I'm not entirely sure what happened to the previous pairs, I suppose I changed sizes and they got ripped and the usual sort of thing. Anyway, now that I have this lovely, pocket-ful pair of shorts, it has struck me that I've been such a skirt wearer lately! It seems quite out of character. The lack of pockets was getting irritating. So I feel much more balanced now.

Mr Bon's Christmas work do continued with dinner at a pub, and astonishingly my stomach sailed through that one as well - I am quite on a roll. Perhaps it's the magical power of being officially on leave and not going back to work for quite some time! Whatever it is, I hope it sticks around, because this is SO MUCH MORE FUN!

Sorry for the terrible layout - I never can get Blogger to put the photos in sensible positions!

Oh, and also: OMG! 7 SLEEPS UNTIL CHRISTMAS! I really need to decorate the tree...

  1. Great photos bon, and well done in having such a fantastic day! A foto tip, if you change your f-stop to as "high" as it will go, say f-22, that sun and mast photo will have the sun looking more like a bright white star! (you may have to make a minor adjustment to the brightness)

  2. So you didn't manage to slip some sort of tracking device on Mr. Whippy? :D

Also, Leave. Bah humbug! 6 more sleeps!

  3. Thanks Steve :)

It's only a camera phone I'm using so I don't think I can control the f-stop. At the moment I'm happy just mucking around with the camera phone and trying to get the hang of framing, but I do one day want to get a DSLR and learn to use it :)
