Err.. Happy January 2nd!

Hurrah, a new year :) Notwithstanding having to work a lot more than I had planned over the Christmas/New Year period, I have a good feeling about this year. No weddings to plan, no big holidays, and my health is still on the up and up. I have had several mince pies without getting sick, and also diced with disaster by eating delicious things with honey in the ingredients. I think I may finally be getting back to normal and losing my sensitivity to fructose - after all, the gastroenterologist did say that I would slowly go back to normal - just that it could take years. Fingers crossed :)

So, Christmas wasn't very Christmassy this year. For me it's usually all about the build up - taking time off work, watching all the tacky Christmas movies, going to see the decorations in the city. Epic Server Fail at work completely stuffed up that plan, but I can't complain too much. My work buddies were at work all through the festive season too, so it was nice and fun, and after all the public holidays and long weekends were lovely and relaxing.

I don't do New Year's Resolutions at all - if you want to resolve on something, why not do it at any time of the year? But I do appreciate the feeling of a fresh start, so I'm going to try to blog more often - I've been very slack lately. Oh, and I also wanted to say HI! to my international visitors :) Who knew Midsomer murders was shown in so many countries??

Today we had a rare burst of activity and headed to OfficeWorks to get some archive boxes, in trays, and a filing cabinet. Once we got there we realised we had a bit of furniture mouldering away in the carport which has a filing section! So instead of buying something new, we fished out the old furniture and cleaned it up.

This was our existing filing situation - only one drawer, completely and utterly overstuffed. There's also a box crammed away somewhere with all the old files which wouldn't fit in.

And this is the new situation!

HURRAH! I'm actually a bit of an organisational freak - I suspect most people who know me wouldn't realise that, as I do tend to live in a pretty unorganised environment (which is slowly driving me insane). It is a struggle in this tiny house to keep everything tidy and find a place for everything, but we're making some inroads at least. I'm actually really looking forward to taking the Christmas tree down so I can put the decorations box away :D

The garden is going relatively well - we had a 24 degree day the other day, so I managed to leave work early and get a good few hours of gardening done. I did the whole feed & mulch routine for the mandarin tree + small unidentified citrus tree, so that just leaves the plum tree and two orange trees which are severely overdue for the treatment.

The vegie bed is also looking nice, as we've pruned back the tomato triffids (which have actually given us a very good tomato harvest, for a first go!). I've also planted a bunch of marigold plants around the bed, which were lovely Christmas gifts. They've been heavily attacked by slaters, so it's still hit and miss as to whether they'll survive, but here's hoping. I also got a lovely little blueberry plant for Christmas, which is potted up and sitting next to my existing one. Hopefully we'll get a huge crop this time next year!

I also had an unexpected find in the garden. When we moved in there was a pretty nice little group of cannas, which slowly shrunk and shrunk due to lack of water and love - I've got very little time and effort to spare for ornamentals. However, when the guys came to put the greywater system in, they ran the pipes by the cannas, which wasn't in the original plan. The cannas have since been getting bigger and bigger, and check out what happened!!

The photo's not very well focused, since it was a windy day and the flower keep swaying around. Incidentally, I checked out the Wikipedia page for cannas - fascinating!

Happy New Year!! I don't do resolutions because I never keep them, instead I just have a few things I'd like to do!!
Glad you are feeling better and managed to avoid feeling poorly.
Well done remembering you already had a filing cabinet and it looks good too.
Someone played with our tomato plants and they are now all ex-tomato plants!!

Thanks 2paw, hope you are feeling well too :)

Oh dear - did Peri get into the tomato patch??

Tess is relatively good in the garden, but we got raised vegie beds especially so she wouldn't be tempted. She does like to bury her treasures in the smelliest place possible - which inevitably means digging up the spot I have just spent HOURS manuring and mulching!!
