I had such high hopes for this mushroom box. It started out with a brilliant coverage of mushie-mould, and then when we cracked it open for phase two, it quickly grew an impressive carpet of little mushie pinheads.
In fact it produced so many pinheads that there would never be room for that many mushrooms when they all grey up!
So what happened??
I have no idea why, but we got one beautiful, big mushroom, and the others just stopped.
Maybe I watered it too often? I use a little spray bottle to water mushie-boxes, and with this box I've been giving it a light spray twice a day. That's more often than I would normally go for, but the weather has been warm.
I wonder if it will have a second and third crop??
I normally get the button mushroom boxes, but I thought Portabello would be nice for a change. Mr Bon harvested our bumper crop tonight, and cooked it up in the oven - delicious. Very pretty too:

mmmm mushroom omelette! :)
VERY pretty! Look at that texture - isn't nature a fabulous artiste? (yes, with a pretentious E at the end...)
